Candice Johnstone, MD, MPH, FAAWR, FACR  is a Professor, Medical Director for the Froedtert Health St. Joseph West Bend Alyce and Elmer Kramer Cancer Care Center Radiation Oncology. Her clinical and research interests include breast cancer and palliative care. In addition, Dr. Johnstone is the co-editor of the Handbook of Palliative Radiation Therapy.

Arif Kamal M.D

He is the newly-appointed Physician Director of Quality and Outcomes for the Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) and holds clinical appointments within the Cancer Center and Duke Palliative Care.  His research appointment is as the Director of Palliative Care and Quality Research for the Center for Learning Health Care within the Duke Clinical Research Institute.  He previously attended medical school at the University of Missouri – Kansas City and then matriculated to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for Internal Medicine Residency and Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.  He then completed a fellowship inHematology/Oncology at Duke University.  As a board-certified palliative medicine physician and medical oncologist, Dr. Kamal studies the link between delivery of high quality care and improved patient and caregiver outcomes and how this can be achieved within the intersection of treatment–directed oncology care and supportive care.

Towards this mission, Dr. Kamal now holds appointments as a member of the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) Quality and Practice Standards Task Force, is a 2013 member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Quality Committee, and is a new member of the AAHPM Research Committee.  He is also the AAHPM delegate to the ASCO QualityMeasures Summit and belongs to a consortium of quality leaders from several large cancer centers who regularly meet to compare data and further expand issues of quality in oncology care.  As a budding researcher, Dr. Kamal has over 25 journal publications, several national and international presentations on quality and palliative care, and a host of book chapters related to similar topics.
